Sherry Echano, AGPCNP-BC

VA Hospice & Palliative Care Fellow, VA-Greater Los Angeles Health System, Hospice and Palliative Care Division

Sherry Echano is an Advanced Practice Fellow with the VA-Greater Los Angeles Hospice and Palliative Care (HPC) Fellowship. The fellowship program involves a robust yearlong curriculum with diverse inpatient and outpatient clinical experience, research activity, and didactics, culminating in specialist NP practice in Hospice and Palliative Care. Sherry began her fellowship in June of 2020 after earning her master’s degree with a specialty in Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner from the UCLA School of Nursing. Born in the Philippines and raised in Los Angeles, Sherry graduated with her BSN from UCLA in 2015, and has worked as a registered for many years at Kaiser Permanente West Los Angeles. An activist and innovator for nursing, Sherry has served leadership and committee roles for the Nurses Improving Care for Healthsystem Elders (NICHE), Wound Committee, and Unit Based Team, among others. Sherry’s nursing experience involves working closely with palliative patients, and more recently many COVID patients, which fueled her passion to pursue HPC training; a spark ignited initially by her loving relationship and the passing of her grandmother. Sherry has embraced her HPC fellowship role and excelled in clinical team leadership as well as providing compassionate presence. She has participated as a Schwartz Rounds panelist discussing COVID related themes. Sherry lends her expertise in mindfulness to her scholarly activity this year, assessing the benefit of wellness exercises for providers during pandemic times. Sherry’s current life motto: Enjoy life. Live life as if every day will be your last.
