Rev. Sharon Burniston, MDiv, BCC-PCHAC, CT is the palliative care chaplain in Overlook Medical Center in Summit, New Jersey, where she works with an interdisciplinary team to treat symptoms and support patients and families dealing with complex medical decision-making. She is ordained by the United Methodist Church and helped create the APC/NACC national standards for chaplains specially board certified in palliative care and hospice. She regularly gives lectures on grief and on the spiritual distress that can occur with various diseases and conditions.
