Melanie Cheng, MD, is a pediatric hospitalist and the Associate Chief Academic Officer for GME at Kings County Hospital Center, the major affiliate for SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University. She graduated from the Pediatrics residency program at SUNY Downstate, where she also completed a concurrent fellowship in General Academic Pediatrics and GME leadership. She is passionate about improving diversity, equity, and inclusion in the clinical learning environment for medical trainees. Her institution is the recent recipient of the Josiah Macy Foundations President’s Grant due to her leadership and collaboration in implementing a holistic remediation review committee. Her current efforts are focused on faculty development, mentorship, and advocacy with specific focus in education equity within GME. Dr. Cheng was awarded a Josiah Macy Foundation President Grant for a project where she is a co-PI, and whose objective is to create inclusive clinical learning environments where all learners can thrive through holistic remediation and coaching practices.
