Liz Mitchell obtained her medical degree at Case Western Reserve University and trained in Emergency Medicine at the Denver Affiliated Health Residency. After working at the University of Colorado ED she moved back home to Boston and has worked at Boston Medical Center for over 20 years. Her interest in the humanities goes deep with 2 CD’s of original music, a wide variety of publications including essays and poetry in among other places; The New York Times, The Boston Globe, Annals of Emergency Medicine, and JAMA. She was a founding member of The Section of Medical Humanities at the American College of Emergency Physicians and teaches medical humanities to emergency medicine residents and students at BMC. As a first responder at the Boston Marathon bombing she wrote about her experience and also worked with the Schwartz Center helping community members process the experience. Her most unusual accomplishment was singing the national anthem at Fenway Park in front of 40,000 people and is currently working the frontline of the Corona 19 pandemic.
