His interest in the field of substance use disorder started in 1991 after completing an intensive outpatient program in the State of Washington. Eddie returned to school and subsequently became a registered counselor within that state, serving the Latino population that were being under served due to the lack of Spanish bilingual counselors. Years later, during the process of going through a divorce and experiencing multiple reoccurrences of use, Eddie relocated to the state of Massachusetts in 2005 seeking the support of family. During the next 9 years Eddie went through a period of self-induced depression due to multiple reoccurrences of use. In 2014 Eddie was introduced to New Beginnings Peer Recovery Center located in the City of Lawrence Massachusetts, a peer recovery center that provided the support and emotional connection to a community that he resonated well with. Eddie immersed himself in the process of recovery and with financial support from Lawrence Methuen Community Coalition attended Recovery Coach Academy. It has been with many ups and downs that Eddie is now able to say… “My name is Eddie; a person in long term recovery, and what that means to me is that in the last 6 years I’ve been able to live a drug free life that allows me to face life on life’s terms.” Today, Eddie has remarried, has a wonderful relationship with both of his children and resides in the state of New Hampshire. His future goals are to continue to grow and expand his knowledge in the science of addiction.
