Cordelia Carter, MD, is the director of the Women’s Sports Center and Co-Director of the Center for Young Athletes at NYU Langone Health and an associate professor of Orthopedic Surgery at NYU School of Medicine. Carter graduated from Yale University and earned her medical degree from the Yale School of Medicine. She completed her orthopaedic residency at New York-Presbyterian Hospital (Columbia University), followed by fellowships in pediatric orthopaedic surgery at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles (USC) and pediatric sports medicine at Children’s Hospital Boston (Harvard University).

Carter has had a lifelong interest in sports medicine: in addition to her own participation in athletics as an Academic All-American collegiate field hockey player, she has coached track and field, lacrosse and field hockey teams at a wide range of scholastic levels.  She is team physician for the Metropolitan Riveters of the National Women’s Hockey League (NWHL) and for the US Ski and Snowboard Association.  Off the field, Carter remains involved with research and advocacy, serving as a board member of the Pediatric Research in Sports Medicine (PRiSM) Society and chair of Wellness Committee for the Pediatric Orthopaedic Society of North America.
